Adult Learning at Killinghall
Hello my name is Shaheen and I am the Parent Educator and Extended Schools Officer at Killinghall.
At Killinghall we welcome and value parental involvement in school and we want parents to enjoy their child’s learning journey through school. We offer a range of courses, training and intervention programmes so you can further support your child’s education and make a real difference to their learning. Some of the courses and training we offer are:
- Advise and drop-in session with Sarah: Monday am - If you have issues concerning you, your child or family, we are here to listen and we can offer 1-1 support. Or if you have concerns regarding Special Education Needs or child development needs, we can refer you for extra support and advice.
- Family Learning Reception parents: Monday pm and Thursday am - Our Family learning programmes focuses on Learning through play. Parents can join their child in fun, engaging sessions that promote language skills, social skills and experimental skills.
- Arts & Crafts: Tuesday am - You can unwind and relax by being creative in our arts and crafts sessions. Enjoy learning a new skill such as the art of mehndi designs, crotchet, papercrafts and more.
- English speaking classes: Tuesdays pm - Build your confidence in speaking English in our friendly classes. We use visual cards, role play, games and we select themed topics to aid discussion.
- Playful Parenting Workshop: Wednesday am - This highlights the value of play and its vital role in building and supporting attachment. We focus on how play supports healthy development and attachments.
- Family Links: ‘How to get the best out of family life’, This 10-week nurturing programme promotes emotional health and mental wellbeing. Each week you will be guided to develop relationships skills and positive behaviour management strategies you can use at home.
- Killinghall Parents & Friends Volunteers: Wednesday pm - We provide training for new volunteers to help understand the benefits of volunteering. They meet regularly to plan social events for families and raise funds for school. It’s a great space to meet new people, learn new skills, so you can feel happier and healthier by connecting to others.
- Toddler group: Thursday pm - Join our toddler group where your child can play with new toys and activities. Your toddler can learn to play with other children and learn how to interact with new adults. Playgroups also help children develop social skills they need for nursery. We have snack time, story time and nursery rhymes.
- Wise Owls, Language Development advice drop in for ages 18 months – 4 years: Friday am - If you have concerns about your child’s speech and language or if your child is speaking less than 50 single words, or you can’t understand your child’s words when they speak. We can arrange 1-1 appointment for further advice and referrals.
