Adult Learning at Killinghall
Hello my name is Shaheen and I am the Parent Educator and Extended Schools Officer at Killinghall.
At Killinghall we welcome and value parental involvement in school and we want parents to enjoy their child’s learning journey through school. We offer a range of courses, training and intervention programmes so you can further support your child’s education and make a real difference to their learning. Some of the courses and training we offer are:
- Adult learning: Learning is for life, build your confidence and develop a new skill by joining these courses: English speaking, Sewing class, ICT for beginners, English language with Family Learning Programme.
- Parent and children in partnership: These programmes offer you the opportunity to work with your child so you can learn teaching methods used in the classroom: Numbers Count, Talking Families, Phonics workshops.
- Pre – school: Parents have a vital role to play in keeping their child stimulated during their early years. The toddler group offers learning opportunities through playing and exploring in a warm friendly environment. Toddlers share healthy snack time together this encourages social interactions. We share stories and sing rhymes together which supports a toddlers listening and attention skills.
- Family Support and Wellbeing: We recognise the challenges of being a parent and we offer a 10 week ‘Family Links’ parenting programme .This programme focuses on praise, rewards, granting responsibility, choices and consequences and how to manage difficult feelings. This is a great programme and we receive positive feedback from parents after they have completed it.
- You can also receive advice and guidance from our Family Support Worker on issues concerning your child or family situation. Issues on benefits, housing, free school meals or parenting can be addressed in confidence.
- Parents as volunteers: Our Killinghall Parents & Friends Association regularly organise and host events of a social nature for the enjoyment of parents and relatives of the school. We have arranged the Summer Fayre, Eid Fayres, Christmas raffles, Cakes for Syria, McMillan coffee afternoon.
- Community: We offer our families experiences outside the community. We have taken trips to Scarborough, Bridlington, Blackpool and Whitby, both parents and children benefit from wider learning experiences. We also arrange holiday clubs during half term break so your child can enjoy the sports, arts, baking and much more.
If you would like more information about any of the courses and training that we offer, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,
Shaheen
