Year 2

In Science, the children have been learning all about materials. They began by naming the materials they are aware of such as wood, plastic, metal and glass and stated what these materials were good for.

The children then completed an activity where they checked to see if they were able to twist, bend, stretch and squash objects from around the classroom.

2AB worked in groups and discussed why they think some materials can change shape whereas others cannot.

In Maths, the children have been representing numbers in tens and ones. They have done this using the numicon, base 10, hoopla and using the part whole method. 2AB have also found other creative ways to represent numbers using tens and ones.

To help us understand our book Beegu, we made Aliens which we wrote descriptions for using our best descriptive writing ideas

To help us understand weight and size we made predicitions comparing many different objects using mathematical symbols. We even compared our own size. We learned why we use certain types of measurement by taking part in experiments making up our own units of measurement.

We've spent time learning about 2D and 3D shapes and went on a 'shape hunt' to identify and find them in school.

During our last Science Topic 'Animals including humans', we learned about the value of keeping healthy. During this topic, we planted seeds in our 'tower garden' and made healthy smoothies as well as completing many experiments to see how exercise affects our body.
